Welcome to #playitforward

This week CRASH started an online campaign to encourage people to make music at home. With March break, community workshops and schools being closed, I was a little disheartened at the idea that I would not be making music with kids for the unforeseeable future. Naturally, I was a little bummed. However I thought I would look on the bright side and realize that I now have a lot of time to work on myself as a musician. I can whip up some DCI (Drum Corps International) charts to learn on snare, I could get back to playing the piano and working on my improvising. I could even learn a new instrument!

As social media has been flooded with videos of musicians playing at home It seemed like a lot of other musicians had the same idea. But what about those who were participating in music passively? Those who are amateur musicians? Those who were a part of a band or were taking music lessons? These are the people who find joy in music but may not have the tools to know how to continue making music on their own. This is what #playitforward is all about. It’s not just for professional musicians, its for you! If you want to continue to make music, learn something new or are simply bored then keep tuning in for easy to follow challenges and posts that are sure to get you thinking outside the box. I would love to see videos and photos of all of you participating and sharing to encourage others to #playitforward. Just because we are isolated does not mean music stops. In fact we need it now more than ever.
